The Gist
String Atlas is a guitar fretboard learning tool. We hope you love using it as much as we love building it. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) describe our commitments to you, and your rights and responsibilities when using our Service. Please read them carefully. If you don't agree to these Terms, don't use our Service.
These Terms govern your access to and use of the website at www.stringatlas.com and the String Atlas application (collectively, our “Service”). Please also review our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your personal information.
1. Who's Who
“You” means any individual using our Service. “We,” “us,” and “String Atlas” refer to the operators of the String Atlas application. By accessing or using any part of our Service, you agree to be bound by all of these Terms. If you use our Service on behalf of another person or entity, you represent that you're authorized to accept these Terms on their behalf.
2. Your Account
Some features of our Service require an account. When you create one, you agree to:
Provide complete and accurate information and keep it current so we can communicate with you about your account.
You are solely responsible for all activity under your account and for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security.
Do not share or misuse your access credentials. If we believe your account has been compromised, we may suspend or disable it.
3. Minimum Age
Our Service is not directed to children. You're not allowed to access or use our Service if you're under the age of 13 (or 16 in Europe). If you register as a user or otherwise use our Service, you represent that you're at least 13 (or 16 in Europe). If you're under 18 years of age (or the legal age of majority where you live), you may only use our Service under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms.
4. Beta Program
String Atlas is currently in beta. By participating in the beta program, you acknowledge that:
The Service may contain bugs, errors, or incomplete features. We provide it on an 'as-is' basis during the beta period.
Features, functionality, and availability may change without notice. We may add, modify, or remove features at any time.
Beta access is limited and may be revoked at our discretion.
We value your feedback during the beta period, but participation does not entitle you to any particular feature or continued access.
Data stored during the beta period is handled with care, but we cannot guarantee its persistence in the event of significant system changes. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you in advance of any such changes.
5. Acceptable Use
You represent and warrant that your use of our Service:
- Will comply with these Terms and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Will not be for any unlawful purpose or in furtherance of illegal activities.
- Will not overburden or interfere with our systems or impose an unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
- Will not interfere with, disrupt, or attack the Service or any related network.
- Will not involve reverse engineering, decompiling, or otherwise attempting to derive the source code of the Service (except to the extent permitted by applicable law).
- Will not involve automated access (bots, scrapers, etc.) without our prior written consent.
- Will not attempt to circumvent any rate limiting, access controls, or other security measures.
6. Intellectual Property
Our Property
These Terms don't transfer any String Atlas intellectual property to you. All right, title, and interest in and to the Service—including the design, code, graphics, logos, and trademarks—remains solely with String Atlas. Using our Service doesn't grant you any right or license to reproduce or otherwise use any String Atlas trademarks or branding.
Your Content
You retain ownership of any content you create through the Service, such as saved chord progressions, custom fretboard patterns, and training data. We do not claim ownership of your content. We store it solely to provide and improve the Service for you.
7. Feedback
We love hearing from you and are always looking to improve. When you share comments, ideas, suggestions, or feedback with us (for example, through our in-app feedback form), you agree that we're free to use them without any restriction or compensation to you. We may use your feedback to improve the Service, develop new features, or for any other purpose.
8. Third-Party Services
Our Service relies on third-party services to operate, including Google Firebase (authentication and data storage), Umami (analytics), Cloudflare Turnstile (spam protection), and Vercel (hosting). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.
If you sign in with Google, your use of that sign-in method is subject to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We're not responsible for any third-party service's availability, accuracy, or content.
9. Changes
We may modify these Terms from time to time—for example, to reflect changes to our Service or for legal or security reasons. If we do, we'll update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes, we may provide additional notice (such as through the app or via email). By continuing to use our Service after changes take effect, you agree to the revised Terms. If you don't agree with any changes, you should stop using the Service.
10. Termination
We may terminate or suspend your access to all or any part of our Service at any time, with or without cause or notice, including if we believe you have violated these Terms.
You can stop using our Service at any time. If you want your account and associated data deleted, please contact us at contact@stringatlas.com.
11. Disclaimers
Our Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” String Atlas hereby disclaims all warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent allowed by applicable law, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that our Service will be error-free or that access will be continuous or uninterrupted.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will String Atlas be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from: (a) your access to, use of, or inability to access or use the Service; (b) any conduct or content of any third party on the Service; or (c) unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content. The foregoing shall not apply to the extent prohibited by applicable law.
If you are a consumer in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights or our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or willful misconduct.
